Two driveways of identical square footage can differ by a factor of three in material because one has a shallow dish and the other has a deep washed-out cavity underneath. A quote produced from the kerb without measuring the void is a guess, and the correction usually arrives mid-job.

Minimum job charge applies on very small single-panel work, which is why a 25 square foot panel does not price at the bare per-foot rate. Pool decks are quoted foam only: slurry weight over a shell backfill and 2 inch patches in decorative surfaces are both poor outcomes.
Look at the driveway row again. Mudjacking is cheaper per square foot but prices higher on that line, because a large open washout takes a great deal of slurry to fill and slurry is sold by volume. Foam expands. On a big cavity the volume advantage can outweigh the per-foot rate, which is exactly why the honest answer requires measuring the void first.
What actually moves your number
Six variables account for almost all of the spread inside those ranges, and none of them is the contractor's mood.
Void volume. The single biggest factor. A slab sitting on a large washed-out cavity needs material to fill the cavity before any lifting happens, and on a badly undermined driveway two thirds of the material goes into the ground before the concrete moves at all.
Lift height. Raising a slab half an inch and raising it three inches are different jobs. More height means more material and more increments, and above about three inches the risk of cracking rises enough that we start discussing replacement instead.
Access. A driveway where the rig parks at the apron and runs short hose costs less than a back patio reached through a side gate with 150 feet of line. Access is a labour cost, not a material one, but it is real.
Slab condition. Sound, uncracked, full-thickness concrete lifts on a normal port grid. A slab with cracks needs more ports, tighter spacing and slower increments so each fragment is supported independently, and that takes longer.
Finish sensitivity. Stamped, stained and exposed aggregate surfaces need ports placed into joint lines and pattern low points, and colour-matched patching afterward. That is careful work and it is priced as such.

Levelling against replacement, in money
Levelling a slab typically costs a third to a half of replacing it. A 500 square foot driveway lifts for $1,200 to $3,500 and replaces for roughly $5,000 to $9,000 once demolition, haul-off and disposal, base preparation, forming, reinforcement, the pour itself and the cure period are all counted.
Replacement also carries costs that never appear on a quote. Seven to twenty-eight days before the slab takes full load. A permit and a registered contractor where the work touches a public right of way. And the fact that the new slab sits on the same subgrade that failed the old one, unless the base work is done properly.

On a driveway where slurry saves $1,200 up front, a repeat repair in year seven against a foam lift still holding at year twelve erases the saving and adds a second mobilisation.
That is not an argument that slurry is bad. It is an argument for asking the right question. The number that matters is cost per year of service on your particular slab, and it depends on whether the subgrade under it is stable. On a thick commercial floor over engineered fill, slurry can easily win on both counts.
The variable that costs more than either method
An uncorrected water source. A downspout discharging onto a driveway approach, a grade that falls back toward the house, an irrigation head watering concrete, or a slab draining toward a playa basin will re-open a void after any lift. Fixing a downspout extension costs almost nothing and is the single highest-return thing most homeowners can do before spending money on concrete.
Insurance, and what it usually does not cover
Texas homeowners policies generally exclude settlement, earth movement and gradual deterioration, which is most of what causes concrete to need levelling. The exception worth pursuing is settlement caused by a covered peril, most commonly a sudden under-slab plumbing leak. In that case the leak repair and some resulting damage may be covered while the levelling itself may not be.

How to compare two quotes properly
Ask every quote for four things in writing. The method, named explicitly rather than left as "levelling". The estimated material volume and what happens if the actual void exceeds it. Whether port patching and post-lift elevation verification are included. And what the contractor does if the slab settles again inside the guarantee period.
A quote that answers all four can be compared with another that answers all four. A single total with no detail cannot be compared with anything, and it is usually the cheapest-looking one on the day.
